CHAPTER 4

If you watch games frequently and have a family, chances are your game-viewing schedule has been a source of friction for everybody involved. A household AQ faces many challenges a solo AQ may take for granted. So, for him to succeed, it takes sharp play-calling to overcome parenting obligations.

Having children can severely complicate your AQ game, but parenthood also has its deeply rewarding moments. For example, a proud AQ might have fathered an AQ prodigy—a child who shows tremendous AQ potential and has quickly taken to watching football with his father, perhaps even reciting statistics. (However, the AQ prodigy has his own issues to deal with, such as a bedtime to adhere to, siblings who interfere, or an overbearing mother who believes he’s damaging his eyes—a notion that is, in fact, untrue.) Another advantage of having AQ children is the initiation ceremony—that emotional day when the offspring is officially welcomed into the sport. Common rites of passage include donning his first official game jersey and devouring his first hot wing.
